After today, I have been thinking more about how ideas come to us – rather than the process of actively looking for inspiration.
I think this is something very relevant to publishing. Publishing is all about new ideas and concepts and each individual gets their ideas in different ways.
I came across a very interesting article from It’s Nice That by Kate Hollowood.
Kate explains that we are so distracted by our phones, emails and notifications about everything and anything, that we often forget to look up, switch off and take inspiration from the world around us. Whilst we are using our conscious brain to work and try to think of ideas, we don’t realise that our best ideas come from when we are subconsciously thinking such as in the shower or just before we fall asleep.
“in today’s society our conscious minds are never allowed to be still”.
I thought that Kate was right and she made some excellent points and this will be something I will take into account. Being creative does not necessarily come from over-thinking – brilliant ideas come to us when we least expect it.
